10 Purchases You Won't Regret

Oregonians Credit Union Oregonians Credit Union Jun 30, 2021 6 min

There are a lot of purchases you may come to regret. A pair of pants you don't wear as much as you thought you would. A recreational vehicle that you realized you didn't need. Upgrading to first class for a 2 hour flight. But sometimes you purchase something incredibly useful that you never regret! That's what this article is all about. Here are our top 10 purchases we promise you'll never regret.

1. A Complete Tool Set

There are a lot of household tools, but nothing compares to a complete set of hand tools. Find yourself a kit that includes a variety of screwdriver types, wrench sizes, and pliers. This 48-piece starter kit from Amazon Basics is a great place to begin. It has a hammer, a level, plenty of socket wrench attachments, various screwdrivers, and even a tape measure. Whether it's building a new piece of furniture, hanging a picture frame, or fixing something around the house, a tool kit like this is something you'll never regret having around.

2. A Comfortable Keyboard

A good keyboard hasn't always been a necessity for everyone, but since working from home it has become a greater need for more people. Especially if you're working at your desk for several hours per day, having an ergonomic keyboard that is comfortable for you is essential to your long-term health. With a ton of different options for size, key type, and more, making the decision can feel overwhelming. Tom's Guide lists the tried-and-true Logitech K350 as their favorite work-from-home keyboard due to its wrist-rest, media keys, and ergonomic design. If you're into a clickier mechanical keyboard feel, they also recommend the more expensive Leopold FC750R PD. That being said, there are countless great options, and everyone has different preferences!

3. Air Conditioning

Here in Oregon, it's usually pretty cold and rainy. But the summers can get hot, with many days hitting well above 80 degrees. In fact, the average high for July and August in Portland is 80 degrees, with plenty of days getting much hotter. So, while an air conditioning unit won't get used here in Oregon as much as other states, it's an amazing comfort to have on those miserably warm days and nights. You can get your entire house set up for central air conditioning, with an exterior unit for a larger upfront cost. You can also purchase a portable or window-mounted AC unit to cool just one room. You'll be thanking yourself during the summer months!

4. Double-Sided Tape

Yes that's right, double-sided tape! This is a simple purchase that may end up being very useful. This tape is incredibly strong and able to hold up just about anything you might want to mount to your wall, but it won't rip your paint off if you ever need to remove it. This is fantastic for renters who don't want to put holes in the wall to hang things. But it's also fantastic for homeowners who want to hang something other than a picture, such as a power strip, coat hook, or really anything relatively light that you don't want to have to drill holes for.

5. International Vacations

Experiencing something completely new can be invaluable. If you've never left the country, then visiting another country with vastly different landscape, culture, and food can be a truly eye-opening trip. It's always great to expand your horizons, and the new experiences that come with an international vacation are irreplacable. This is an expensive experience to be sure, but worth every penny for discovering what else is out there in the world.

6. A Video Streaming Service

Cable TV plans are overpriced. Buying DVDs is wasteful. If you do like movies and television shows, streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max will be a worthwhile purchase. Subscription streaming services are always the first suggestion to cut in order to save money, but what if you have the money to spend and you enjoy watching movies as your favorite relaxation method? If that's the case, then a streaming service that has the kind of content you want to watch will not be a wasted purchase.

7. Laser Eye Surgery

If you have eye problems, then you've likely spent a lot of money on glasses, contacts, and the appointments to get them. If you invest in laser eye surgery, you will not only leave with better vision than before. You'll also realize that you only spent a few years worth of glasses, contacts, and eye care on this surgery and it will "pay for itself" in no time! Of course, before getting this surgery you should consult your doctor to find out what is right for you and your situation.

8. A Pet

An animal companion will almost always be worth the adoption fee and the cost of food and supplies. An animal that truly cares about you and gives you joy is irreplaceable. Whether you adopt a dog, a cat, a bird, a reptile, or something else, a good pet is a companion that you can love and care for, for years to come. And if you're lucky, they'll love you back! Remember to adopt from a shelter if able!

9. A Reliable Car

You may feel like you get a good deal on the cheapest car possible, or that you want the latest luxury car. But when your cheap car decides to break down or you realize what else you could have spent your money on other than a luxury car, you may wish you had purchased something afforadable and reliable. Ten or more years down the road, when your car is still running with no problems, you will be happy that you purchased something that was built to last and didn't break the bank. Here are the most reliable cars in 2021 according to Consumer Reports.

10. A Good Mattress and Pillow

You spend about one-third of your day sleeping, and the quality of sleep that you can get can severely affect your mood and overall health. Therefore it is very important to invest in a mattress and a pillow that suit your sleeping style. If you can wake up every morning feeling as refreshed and vibrant as possible then you'll be more likely to have a great day! Besides, wouldn't you want to invest in being comfortable doing something you spend nearly a third of your life doing?
