The ongoing government shutdown is impacting Oregonians. More than 20,000 federal workers in the Portland Metro area haven't received a paycheck in over a month, and 1 in 6 Oregonians have lost SNAP benefits.
If you're hurting right now, you're not alone. Here's how to get and give help.
If You're a Federal Employee Who Hasn't Been Paid
Please reach out. It doesn't matter if you have a loan with us or not. If you're a member, we may have solutions to ease the strain until your paychecks return.
If You've Been Affected by SNAP Delays
Continue to apply for and renew benefits despite delays. Don't delay providing paperwork when requested. Once the funding is available again, payments will be backdated.
In the meantime, there's food available for you:
- Find free groceries, meals and food marketing with Oregon Food Bank's Food Finder.
- Call 211 to locate food pantries, pick-up sites, and delivery options.
- Here's a growing list of restaurants, pantries, shelters, pet resources, and other mutual aid groups providing free or discounted food and meals.
Here's How You Can Help
Oregon Food Bank is filling in our community food gaps. They buy food in bulk and distribute to panties statewide, stretching every dollar further.
This is why we're hosting a fundraiser for Oregon Food Bank supporting this very cause. If you're in a position to give, we invite you to join us in donating directly to our neighbors in need.
